Dr Ralf Marquard takes over as head of research and development at DEUTZ AG with effect from 1 October 2010. Marquard (52) replaces Dr Hans-Josef Schiffgens, who left the company at his own request on 30 June 2010 to take up a new position outside DEUTZ AG.
Dr Ralf Marquard originally hails from Bonn and studied mechanical engineering at RWTH Aachen University, specialising in design and internal combustion engines. On leaving university he joined Professor Franz Pischinger as a research assistant at FEV Motorentechnik GmbH in Aachen, gaining his doctorate in 1992. Following a period as head of design in the engine development department of Meta Motoren- und Energietechnik GmbH in Herzogenrath, he became head of the powertrain systems design department with the Austrian engineering company AVL List GmbH in Graz in 1997. From 2004 to 2008 Dr Marquard was head of development for medium speed engines at MAN SE in Augsburg, and since 2009 he has been in charge of the research and preliminary development unit for commercial-vehicle engines at MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG in Nuremberg.
Dr Hans-Josef Schiffgens has been head of research and development at DEUTZ AG since October 2007, with the main focus of his work on the development of the new generation ofDEUTZ engines for the next exhaust emissions standards COM III B in Europe and Tier 4 Interim in the USA.
